learning with and from each other
We’ve learned a number of things about our fellow bloggers who have posted random facts about themselves. Not only are these enjoying to read, but they offer great opportunities to connect with other people.
But why random? It all centers on learning how to protect our privacy. Identifying and sharing information that is not too personal in nature is an important skill in blogging and one we always have to keep in mind when we are drafting posts.
I’ve included my own set of facts below. Notice how I’m able to share new information with you without giving away too much such as exactly where I live or where and when I participate in activities. I am also careful not to compromise my friend’s or family members’ privacy, too.
Your assigned blogging task this week is to create a post that includes your own set of Seven Random Facts. When you create your list, use the numbered bullets found in your editor. Your goal is to share details of your life that can’t be found on your About page. Try to cover a range of topics and consider each fact carefully before you decide to include it. Make sure it’s information that you want the world to know.
After you have published your 7 Random Facts, take time to explore different blogs from our class. Look for new or surprising connections with your classmates and ultimately choose 5 people’s posts to thoughtfully comment on.

Well, it wasn’t a circus with lion tamers and elephants. It was more of an acrobatic circus. I used a lot of my gymnastic skills in the performances.

I think one of the reasons I grew up disliking cherry and strawberry flavours is because they reminded me of medicine like children’s Tylenol or antibiotics. Yuck! When I was little, there were very few flavours that medicine could be. Those were the days before chewables and grape flavour.

Hello, I love you blog. I teach fifth grade in Michigan. We have a blog called The skinny. I am looking for some ideas to get the students involved and I really like what you do with your class.
I also like the idea of your students having their own blog but I have a question or two for you. I can’t find a place on your site to contact you. If it is ok I would like to email you a couple of questions. Or I can ask them here.
Have a great weekend.
Jim

Mrs. Braidwood I would have never thought you would like karaoke. Thats awesome that you do because I love to sing but not exactly infront of people except my mom. I find myself lost without a watch but I hate when you accidently hit a button that your not supposed to and it changes the time, well I did that once and I slept the whole day after Halloween and I woke up and It said it was 5:00 AM when it accualy was 5:00 PM. You were in the circus? That’s awesome! I was eight or nine when my youngest brother was born. I like your random facts!

Thanks, Ryan. I love karaoke, but I don’t get to do it too often any more. It was a little nerve-racking the first few times, but then it gets easier after you realize that everyone is usually pretty positive about you just trying it in the first place! Plus, you sing better once you aren’t too worried about it anymore.

Hi Mrs. Braidwood! I can’t believe you don’t like mostly all red flavoured food and candy. My favourite flavour of candy is usually red because it’s most likely going to be cherry, strawberry, or raspberry, but if it is cinnamon flavored I wont like it. My favourite type of fruit is a raspberry, so I like red food and candy.
I’m never lost without my watch because I never wear it. Besides, it got put in the washing machine not to long ago, and now it doesn’t work.
Did you really go camping for the first time when you were 18? Where is/are your favourite place(s) to go camping?

Well, if I have any red candy when you are around, you’re welcome to it! The only red flavour I usually like is raspberry as long as it’s pretty close to the real thing. It’s just the artificial flavouring that I don’t like. I actually really like real cherries, raspberries and strawberries.
The flavours I dislike more than anything (meaning I’d even eat red-flavoured candy before these) are artifical banana and watermelon. Does anyone think they actually taste like the real thing? Blech!
I didn’t have any opportunities to camp when I was younger even though I wished we would go. I always knew I’d like it. My favourite places are anywhere where there is adequate space between campsites, access to water (rivers, lakes, or ocean) and lots of trees. I still have lots of places on the Island to explore camping-wise.

Why don’t you like to eat food that is red? I personally like most red foods. I think they taste really good.
I have never noticed that you are good at juggling or unicycling, you will have to show our class someday!

I never knew you could juggle or unicycle! Do you play softball. Most professinal baseball players can only throw 106 mph maximum.

Hi Tanner. Great Comment! I played rep fastball (softball) from the time I was 10 until I was about 25. Professional baseball players are clocked in mph (miles per hour) so 106 mph is much faster than 102 km/h. There are 6 miles for every 10 km. Can you figure out how many kilometers 106 miles are?

Hi Mrs,Braidwood, I didn’t know you were in a circus group. That would be so cool.Did you go on a tight rope? That would be so freaky.I was in a camp when I was 8 it was fun.

I did learn to walk and do tricks on a tight rope. It wasn’t a really high one though, only about 10 feet or so off the ground. It wasn’t my usual area to train in – I was in more of the acrobatic acts – but I did get to try it now and again.

I grew up in Vancouver and camping just wasn’t in my parents’ plans I guess. Where were you in a circus group?
If you check back to my reply to Brianna’s comments above you’ll find the answer to why I don’t like red flavoured food.

How did you find out that you could through 102km/hr did someone use those gun things that the police use to see how fast a car is going?

You are absolutely right! My coaches used to bring a radar gun at different times to practice. Actually, I remember a few different coaches over the scope of my fastball career doing that.

Sometime I’m lost without a compus when it’s not around. Hahaha lol! I don’t know how fast my throw I think I throw 1.56km/hr. I was about 6-7 years old when I went to my first camp it was only a day.
