The Ripple Effect and Huzzah! are all set to dance off! And all of our readers are invited…
No, this isn’t a competition. In fact, we’re not the ones dancing at all (although dancing in class is fun … we’ve done that before). This is a chance to share your creativity and technology skills through the use of Pivot Animation. Why dancing? Well, we are down to the last 8 days of school left before Winter Break, and we all feel like dancing! What better way to end 2009? We’ll be dancing our way into the New Year, ready for our next round of adventures in 2010.
To get a better idea of what we’re looking for, here’s my first attempt at Pivot Animation. I’m sure you will all surpass my abilities in a short amount of time.
The more dancing the better. If you’d like to be a part of our 2009 Dance Off, here is the criteria that the two classes will be following. Each video segment will include:
A Christmas/Winter background (we’re uploading CC Flickr images to our Pivot files)
hint: the program defaults to look for bmp files. Change the drop down menu to .jpg file types
Pivot animations are imported into a movie program (We’re using Windows Movie Maker)
hint: save your pivot animation as a .gif file, not a .piv file
Titles, credits and music are added into the movie program to finish the dance video
Find a techno/electro CC song that has a strong beat (your teacher can help with this one)
Once the movies are made, we’re uploading them into our class Vimeo account so we can post them on our individual blogs (we chose Vimeo because many students can’t view You Tube at school).
When you post your video, please link back to this post. We’re looking forward to exploring everyone’s creative dance moves. Let the dancing begin!
Hi everyone! I am really looking forward to making and finishing our movies! I really like to work on Pivot and making movies on it is so much fun! I can’t wait to see how many movies we get and I can’t wait to watch them all!
I love using Pivit stickfigure animater. I use it all the the time! I bet this dance off is going to be really fun. I am going to make mine as cool as I can! I really like your animation, it is really fluent.
I Love your video of the pivit animation. So far it has been very fun using it. I am very excitied to see all the videos from our class! Using pivit animation has been kind of dufficult (but very fun) because if you mess up on one little thing you just start over again! I love it
I really like your video! I can’t wait until I’m done mine. The picture looks so nice,it fits in so good. I like how you made the sick guy dance on the presents.
I’m glad that we are going to be doing this again. Last year our class had a lot of fun making the stick figures dance and move around. The finished products were all really good too!
Hi Mrs.Braidwood I really like the movie it is really cool. I am having a concert today. I am really excited about it. I am also excited about the dance off. May the best dance win!
Hey Mrs. Braidwood! That was a pretty awesome video. I liked when the stickman did the flip off the present. I hope to see some other people’s animations soon!
Pivot animation is so much fun I like adding in all the animals expecially the elephant it is really cool.I reallylike your pivot animation it is really good and I like how you used your background in your video.
I can’t wait to get started on this I wonder how good other people are going to be ive seen a few but not many well have to get started mrs braidwood bye
The pivot animation was really fun to do. I’m really excited to put my stickman video in my blog before christmas. Mrs Braidwoods’ video was really cool too.
Hello Mrs.Braidwood:) I like your pivot dancer dude:) Is it suposed to be any certin dance? So how have you been? I have been good if you where wondering:) I like the picture you put in the post. I know anouther way of spending the last few days of school play games!! Really this pivot is your first movie wow I never new that!! well bye bye and have a good Christmas:)
That was the coolest break dancing that I have ever seen in my entire life. And the video was so cool I could keep on watching it over and over again. I liked it when the stickman did a back flip and I even like when the stick man did the splits.
@Greg I thought that the presents gave me a few options for things to dance on, so I decided to try that out. I’m waiting to see all of the other dancers first before I make a new one.
I’m so happy! That we are having a stickman dance off. It sounds like fun. I named your stickman “Toast” I loved Toast when it danced. It looked really cool and 52 is it’s favorite number!
@Sierra 52! Wow! That’s my favourite number too! Who knew? Toast is a pretty good dancer. The name sounds pretty familiar though. Have I met another Toast somewhere this year all ready?
I am impressed with your may talents. I wonder if I would be able to make a pivot stickfigure animation clip. I have no experience with animation and I am not very good with technology. In fact I think I should try it becasue it wouild be a real challenge for me! I really like it when the stick man does the flip off of the present!
@Mrs.Martindale I think you should give it a whirl! You can find Pivot Animator on any school computer, or you could visit the lab when we’re there and I bet you’d have a few options for your own personal tutor.
Its a lot better than my first attempt at Pivot which my students laughed at! I didn’t even know that you could change the background so the present idea was a really good one to tie it in with a festive theme. For a blog that’s only just started you have done very well in a short space of time.
Mr Webb and Room 8, Melville Intermediate School, Hamilton, Waikato, New Zealand.
Thanks Mr. Webb. We’re having a lot of fun with Pivot Animation. It’s a great way to end the last few days before school’s out for holidays. You’ve probably just ended your school year, haven’t you? So you might not have students, but maybe we’ll still see you in the Dance Off next week!
Hi Ripplers!
Well, after a LOT of fussing, we finally have our first three animations on Vimeo. Were you cursed by glacial slowness on WMM? Glad to be publishing–looking forward to seeing yours! Look at our first contribution here: http://huzzah.edublogs.org/2009/12/16/christmas-dance-off/
We’re excited to see the Huzzahnian contributions to the Dance Off! Fussing was on our menu as well, but I think we’ve survived. A few have been posted and more are coming tomorrow. We actually ran out of daily uploading space in Vimeo. Tomorrow we’ll start uploading early!

December 10th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Nice pivot, I like the picture you chose. What made you want that picture? Did it look good? Did it stand out? Whatever it was, good choice.
I liked the way you made him move and dance. My favorite was the mid-air flip. Could you make another please?
