We Believe in the Power of WE!

We have an amazing opportunity in front of us! The Ripplers are heading to We Day this year and it’s pretty difficult to contain our excitement about it. Stemming from the Me to We movement sparked by the non-profit organization Free the Children, there are several We Day events all across Canada. In each location, the efforts of young people, who are dedicated to learning about social issues and being the change they want to see in this world, are recognized and celebrated.

In a single day we will get a chance to hear:

We will also get the chance to see Hedley, Shawn Desman, and Down With Webster perform. Incredible as that is, additions to this line-up are expected to be announced in the coming days. As part of our preparation to go, we have learned the We Day dance that was chorepgraphed by Shawn Desman to one of his own songs, Night Like This. At some point during this event, he will perform it and the arena will erupt into a sea of dancers.

This past week, we learned that we could enter a contest to potentially win a chance to dance on stage while he performs or the possibility of a dance party at our school with him present. How could we turn that opportunity down? Well, we didn’t. Our original idea to record our class dancing in the gym quickly evolved into a music video and luckily we have a really cool principal who agreed to play a role in it. We’re pretty pleased with what we created. Have fun watching it and wish us luck!

Ripplers … what are your thoughts on our video making process? Did one part of it stand out in your mind more than others? What are your thoughts on attending We Day? What do you hope to get out of the experience?

    Division 1 Students!

Great video performance of your 2011 We Day Dance! You definitely have a chance of getting up on stage now that you have challenged yourselves and submitted this amazing video.

The effect/editing of the video to make it look like Mr. Costain was running towards the large group of you down the hall was well executed.

Wow! Mrs. Braidwood and your students continue to amaze me every day. Keep up the great work…and if you need another chaperone let me know:)

Hi Mrs. Braidwood! Even though I am not participating in We Day, I still look forward to hearing your thoughts about it. Making the video took a lot of hard work and thinking to create this dance the way it is! My favourite part in the video was when Mr. Costain slid do the hallway on his belly! What was you favourite part?

I cant believe your taking us to We day! I’m so excited to be going to see some of the world’s most influential people speak about social issues around the world. These people have made a huge difference in making the world we know today. I thank you for this opportunity to go to this event. The way you made the video was okay, but why did it take all day?

I am one of the performers in C.P.A that you have commented on and yes it was nervous singing and dancing in front of a live audience but at the end I felt great thanks for commenting.

Thanks for all those great compliments. The song does make you want to dance. Every time the song comes on our class starts to do the We Day dance!

To answer your questions. Mrs. Braidwood recorded it and it was also her idea to enter this video in the We Day contest. We learned the dance moves off the We Day site. We didn’t pick the song. It is the We Day dance song. We had a lot of fun recording it because it was during class time. Thanks :)

Hi everyone. That is a very cool video. I’m very impressed with your editing skills – and your persuasive skills in getting your principal to take such a prominent role. Who did the editing?

Has WE Day happened now? I had never heard of it before but it sounds like a wonderful opportunity for you to find out more about important social issues and discuss them with other young people. I would love to hear more about it.
