I am pleased to inform you that you have been chosen for an award. Burton’s Scholars presents you with The “Blog Chain – Pass it on” Award. Your blog has been named as one of ten blogs that I am “passing on” for others to follow.
http://msvrburton.edublogs.org/2010/05/22/and-the-winner-is-us-burtons-scholars/
The rules of the award are as follows:
1- Copy and display the picture of the award given to you;
2- Link back to the blog that nominated you;
3- Nominate 10 different blogs yourself;
4- Inform the people you nominated, so they can in turn, continue the chain and spread the word about other great blogs out there.
Congratulations. Keep up the good work, your hard work is appreciated.

Hi there,
I have been pouring over your class blog and I am just in awe. I have been running a class blog for years now … but the stuff you’ve done is just WOW. You are amazing! I love the questions you ask your students and all the cool tools you incorporate. Can I ask you some questions?
1. Do you teach all the students the different tools… or do you just show them what’s available and they go for it? Which ones are your favorites? For example: vimeo
2. Do you have a class account for each one of the tools? Or do the kids each have to sign up individually?
3. If there is one tool that you would upgrade your subscription for, which one would it be… example: vimeo, animoto
4. What was your process of teaching the students about using the blog … and learning about internet safety? Do you have an outline of steps? For example: week 1: teach internet safety
There are so many little pieces to get across, it’s a lot to think about. I think I need to slow the whole process down a bit, and create goals, like you do!
5. How do you communicate with parents about student use of the blog? Also, do you have to get permission for each student to get their own blog?
6. Do you have guidelines about what the students can post about on their individual blogs?
7. Where do you allow your students to get the pictures the use on their blogs? I see a lot of Flickr Creative Commons … any other places? I’ve never known about that before — so cool! I’ve just been using Google images…
8. Is the student and class bogging mostly done during school or at home (or both)? I’m just trying to figure out how much time is spent on the blog during class.
I want to thank you for doing what you do. You have inspired me to reinvent my blog and the experience I give my students. It’s so much work … and a lot of the time I feel like I am trying to reinvent the wheel. I teach 5th grade, by the way. My school is very supportive of technology use, thankfully, but there are very few teachers who use it to the extent that I do. In many ways, I am having to educate parents about all these cool tools. I don’t mind, of course, but it’s a lot of work! This year, I was able to get my students signed up with Gmail (Google) accounts! It was awesome getting to use all the Google tools (Google Docs, etc) this year. Anyway, if you have any tips, I would be so thankful!

Hello Mrs. Braidwood’s class.
This is Mr. Assu, I was your substitute back when you went off to camp.
That day I was with your class you were looking at blogs and I noticed Mrs. Smith’s class blog was one of your ‘friends’.
Today I am in Mrs. Smith’s class and we are looking at other blogs and your class was one of them. So I thought I would send you a quick note saying “HI!”
Mr. Assu
